Who we are

The Savvy Sighthound (thesavvysighthound.com) is written by a small group of sighthound owners in Ireland and the UK, based in Rathmines, Dublin. We're not vets, trainers, a rescue or a charity. We don't sell anything. If we ever work with a sponsor or partner, we'll say so clearly wherever it applies.

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. We won't take it personally. Our hounds might sigh, but they sigh at everything.

Information, not advice

Our guides and blog posts share what we've learnt, what's common among sighthounds and what's worked for us. They're general information. They're not veterinary, behavioural, legal or insurance advice, and they're not a substitute for it.

Every hound is different. What suited one of ours may not suit yours. If you're worried about your hound's health or behaviour, speak to your vet or a qualified professional who can actually meet your hound. If your hound is unwell or injured right now, contact your vet straight away rather than reading on.

Where we mention the law (muzzles, microchips, licences and so on), rules differ between Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, and they change. Check the current rules with the relevant official body before relying on them.

Our liability

We work hard to keep everything accurate and up to date, but we can't promise the site is complete, error free or always available. We provide it as is.

So far as the law allows, we're not responsible for any loss, damage, injury or cost that comes from decisions you make, or actions you take, based on anything you read here. Decisions about your hound's care are yours to make, ideally with your vet.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that can't be limited or excluded under Irish law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Links to other sites

Sometimes we link to official bodies, studies or other useful pages. We don't control those sites and we're not responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices or availability. A link isn't an endorsement. If a link has broken, tell us and we'll fix it. We're much better at fetching links than our hounds are at fetching anything.

Our words and photos

Unless we say otherwise, the words, photos and graphics on this site belong to us or are used with permission, and they're protected by copyright. Yes, even the photo of the lurcher wearing a duvet as a cape.

• You're welcome to: Share a link to any page, and quote a short extract with credit and a link back to the page it came from.
• Please ask first before: Copying whole articles, reusing our photos or using anything of ours for commercial purposes.

If you send us something

If you send us a question, story or photo of your hound, you're confirming that it's yours to share. If you've told us we can use it, you give us permission to publish it on the site, in the newsletter and on our Instagram, free of charge, and to edit it for length or clarity. We'll credit you the way you ask, or not at all if you'd rather.

You can ask us to take it down at any time and we'll do so as soon as we reasonably can. We won't publish anything that identifies you or other people without permission. For how we handle your personal data, see our Privacy and Cookies notice.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live in the UK or elsewhere in the EU, you keep any protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date below shows when they last changed. Carrying on using the site after a change means you accept the new version.
